I have a kitchen island cart and the top is an awful sheet of metal wrapped around a piece of wood. (I assume, I haven't taken it apart yet). Otherwise, it's a really great cart. I want to replace the top with butcher block, and I'm wondering how I need to finish it. I don't intend on actually cutting directly on it, so it seems like mineral oil/beeswax isn't necessary. I'm more worried about being able to clean it. I've read about oil based poly or tung oil. Will either of those do the trick? ... Well, this was a big mistake. I sanded off my butcher block top so I could put a new coat of polyurethane on. I used a cheap orbital sander and I guess the little dust bag didn’t work very well. There is literally dust covering every surface of my home. Up the walls and everything. Are there any health risks involved? I am worried about my husband and baby breathing this stuff in.
